Castor Rosencrantz Kent is a community-oriented director, writer, and multidisciplinary theatre artist based in Athens, Ohio.

After three years working primarily as a scenic and sound designer, I took a directing class. I had a moment early on in that course when I realized, “Oh. I have to do this for the rest of my life.” I shifted my creative focus to directing while continuing to work as a mulitdisciplinary artist, as I believe an intimate understanding of my collaborators’ jobs makes me a better director, collaborator, and artist.

I primarily direct classic and comedic works, from Shakespeare and Molière to Noël Coward and Chekhov. I find myself attracted to any play or musical with strong themes of community, agency, and time.

With a focus on a deeply collaborative director-actor relationship, physical storytelling, and consent-based practices, I enjoy working with other artists to tell stories from the quietly intimate to the laugh-out-loud. I draws inspiration from Suzuki and Viewpoints training at Ohio University and with The SITI Company Alumni Network, a year of Meisner technique training at OU, training with The Clown School of San Francisco, and Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud.

Selected directing credits include Constellations, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Romeo and Juliet, Present Laughter, and Peter and the Starcatcher.

  • Castor is a scholar as well as an artist, graduating from the University of Puget Sound with a triple major in Classical Studies, Religious Studies, and Theatre Arts. Castor is currently pursuing both an MFA in Directing and an MA in Creative Writing (Fiction) at Ohio University.
